At Artful Teasing we keep our formulations as natural as possible. We do this not just by using natural ingredients, we also think about the way the products work on the skin and the effect they have on the environment. Our products are fragranced with pure essential oils rather than synthetic perfumes. We work hard to create blends of oils that smell wonderful. When we use an essential oil it is there for a reason, either its aroma or its benefits.
We use organic products whenever possible and try to source as many products as possible locally. We like to keep things simple. We only use ingredients that are necessary. Many big brands use what a called in the trade ‘tip-ins’. An extract of a currently fashionable plant is included purely to justify a nice picture of the plant on the front of the bottle, even though there may be a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the actual plant in the formulation.
There is no reason why a natural formulation shouldn’t be cosmetically elegant. Our formulations are based on years of experience in developing cosmetics and topical pharmaceuticals. We get great feedback from our customers about how much they like our products.
Our lotions and creams contain a natural material derived from olive oil that matches the structure of the upper layer of the skin. This does not disrupt the skin’s natural barrier and maintains moisture over a longer period. We don’t use harsh materials like SLS/SLES.
All cosmetic products that contain water need to be preserved in some way. The most commonly used preservatives are the parabens, which are synthetic chemicals that can build up in the body. There are other synthetic chemicals that can be used instead of parabens, but most of them are no better and some are worse than parabens themselves in terms of toxicity and their harmfulness to the environment. We use a natural preservative system based on the enzymes found in tears. This system does not build up in the body and has no effect on the environment. Our bottles are made from PET, a recyclable plastic and we only use natural recyclable material for packaging.
