About Petworth

We are very proud of our beautiful town and range of independent shops. In fact apart from a small supermarket and the chemist, all our shops are independents. Quirky, historical, set within the new South Downs National Park, Petworth is a quality destination for a day trip or extended visit.    Petworth is easily accessible from London, situated between the cathedral cities of Guildford and Chichester and thirty minutes from the South Coast. We are ideally located for Goodwood and Cowdray Park and have our very own stately home and deer park on our doorstep.    Steeped in history and culture, there is always something going on; there has been a fair in Market Square every St Edmunds Day (20th November) since 1275 and in July and August there is the Petworth Festival which attracts the best musicians from all over the world. Although renowned for our antique shops Petworth also has galleries showing contemporary design, designer boutiques, individual gift shops, local produce, specialist stores, interior and home furnishings and old-fashioned customer service in beautiful surroundings. Refreshment can be found in a wide variety of cosy establishments from a cup of tea to fine dining. A five minute walk from the market square you can find glorious open countryside or the magnificent Petworth Park.
